SAIA Transformation and Sustainability Forum
The SAIA Consumer Education Fund continues to make strides in contributing towards making South African consumers financially literate and aware of the products the non-life insurance industry offers. Consumer Education & Financial Literacy play a critical role in developing financial capability in our society.

In promoting transformation of the industry through its supply chain, SAIA has established stakeholder forums that facilitates engagement between its members and other external parties on issues of interest in driving transformation of the industry. Currently there are two forums established in the interest of acceleration transformation within the industry’s claims repair spaces.
The forum was established to facilitate engagements between members on non-competitive industry issues impacting the motor insurer and the motor body repairers (MBR), through representation by MBR Associations. The objectives of the forum is to establish the shared objectives between the two industries and facilitate the development of industry frameworks and/or initiatives to assist in both industries in becoming transformed and sustainable. Project that have been established under this forum includes the establishment of Industry MBR Grading Standards and SAIA’s participation in the Competition Commission’s development of the Guidelines for the Automotive Aftermarket, which was released in December 2020, in order to promote equitable access to procurement and Enterprise and Development for the previously individual servicing the industry.
The forum was established to facilitate engagements between members on non-competitive industry issues impacting the property insurer and the service providers in the building and construction repair spaces, through representation by service provider associations. The objectives of the forum is to establish the shared objectives between the two industries and facilitate the development of industry frameworks and/or initiatives to assist in both industries in becoming transformed and sustainable.
The Forums also looks at projects of generic nature, aimed at strengthening the relationships between the industry and sectors servicing it. One project of that nature is the development of the Treating Supplier Fairly framework, which focused in the establishment of fair engagement practices by the insurers toward their service providers. The principles document has been approved by the SAIA Board and will be incorporated into the SAIA Code of Conduct for adoption by SAIA members.
