SAIA and NAAMSA ongoing discussions - SAIA Bulletin July 2019

As part of the SAIA broad objective of finding solutions to lower the input cost of insurance, SAIA members and the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) meet regularly to discuss industry-specific challenges and seek solutions to agreed challenges. These include discussions for more black-owned in-warranty repairers, the cost and delay of parts; the parts return processes, the NaTIS coding of damaged vehicles, the quality of repairs and how the value-chain in the repair process could contribute to repairing more vehicles; commonly known as Save-a-Car.

At the last meeting, extensive discussions were held in terms of parts, with various input from representatives from insurers, motor importers and manufacturers. Many of the motor industry representatives also critiqued how insurers are approaching Save-a-Car cases and raised concerns on the cost-effectiveness of desktop-assessments of damaged motor vehicles.

SAIA members are reminded that the contact details of OEMs, that are willing to contribute to Save-a-Car, are on the website: https://saia.co.za/save-a-car.html.

More OEMs have indicated that they would like to make their contact details available and we are currently adding those details to the website.

Another challenge raised by insurers was on the reliability of data on Audatex; SAIA has, therefore agreed with representatives of Audatex for discussions to raise member concerns.

SAIA members interested in joining these discussions should contact Zakes Sondiyazi, SAIA Insurance Risks Manager on Zakes@saia.co.za
