Top styling tips from our very own Thembi:

What inspires you to dress up every day?

For me, “When you look good, you feel good”. The way I look has an impact on my attitude for the day. When I am dressed down, I tend to have a lazy day and I am not motivated to do anything at all but lie on the couch. But when I dress up, I tend to look forward to my day and it just creates some positive energy. Besides, I’ll never know who I’ll bump into, so every day is Fashion Day!
Any advice for ladies who find it hard to shop? It’s always important to have a “look” in my mind when you go out shopping. It could be a look you spotted from a celebrity or socialite on social media. It is also very important to have an idea about the event you’re shopping for. Once you have that, then you can master shopping. Now this may require you to hop from shop to shop just to achieve that look. I however have found it much easier to search online first which stores to target, and that has minimised the time I spend at the mall.

Any items you cannot go without?

Heels! Bags! Accessories! Did I mention heels…? Well according to me I am the average height when it comes to SA women, but of course in other people’s eyes I am a midget! Hence my love for heels.

But generally, those 3 items mentioned above can shift an entire outfit from being just okay, to EXQUISITE!

Who are your style icons?

Bonang Mathebe (IG: bonang_m) and Toke Makinwa (IG: tokemakinwa)

Not only do they rock red carpet outfits but day to day looks too…effortlessly!

What are your favourite places to shop at?

ONLINE SHOPPING! That’s my first preference!  I am very picky when it comes to stores mainly because I am petite. So, I always go to shops who accommodate my size ie. Forever New, ZARA, YDE, Sissy Boy.

General Advice on Fashion

I always say that people should remember the 2 C’s when it comes to fashion. Are you COMFORTABLE and are you feeling CONFIDENT?

Everyone has a distinctive style, but once you have mastered your body shape and finding out ways to dress up for that body type, then you’ve got this! However, comfort is just as important to looking and feeling good.

Confidence plays a MAJOR role in fashion. Self-confidence is a skill. It’s the ability to believe in yourself no matter the odds. When you lose sight of yourself, then no one else will believe in you. Remember, the word responds to how you feel.
