The SAIA and its members pay tribute to a legendary world leader

Today the South African Insurance Association (SAIA) and its members pay tribute to a courageous spirit and legacy of legendary world leader.

“The greatest homage we pay to a man of his stature is to honour his legacy, enduring spirit and sound principles which represents all we aim to achieve in the SAIA community.  We join the people of South Africa in mourning and extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mandela family on behalf of our members,” says Barry Scott, Chief Executive, the SAIA.

In addition the SAIA expresses gratitude to Madiba for the immense contribution he made to the transformation of our country and its people through his unconquerable spirit and legacy.

Adds, the SAIA General Manager, Transformation and Social Risk, Leila Moonda, “The South Africa, Mandela strived for, is the greatest gift we received. We are eternally grateful for this gift. We all hope to strive and fulfil the legacy of that great gift. No words can express our gratitude for the overwhelming gift he has given us. May his memory stay blessed.”

We conclude in the words of Madiba: “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.” Nelson Mandela
